About the position:

MN8 Energy is seeking a GIS Manager to oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of geospatial data and systems within our energy sector operations. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the GIS Manager will play a pivotal role in utilizing spatial data to enhance decision-making processes, optimize infrastructure planning, and support operational efficiency across various projects.

 

As the GIS Manager, you will:

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of GIS strategies and workflows to support energy sector operations, including renewable energy projects, transmission, and distribution networks.
  • Manage a team of GIS professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and technical expertise to ensure the successful execution of GIS projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, analysts, and field personnel to integrate GIS solutions into business processes and workflows.
  • Oversee the acquisition, processing, and maintenance of geospatial data including satellite imagery, LiDAR, GPS data, and other relevant sources.
  • Develop and maintain geodatabases, spatial data models, and metadata standards to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and accessibility.
  • Implement spatial analysis techniques to support site selection, resource assessment, environmental impact assessment, and risk analysis for energy projects.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in GIS, and evaluate their potential applications within the energy sector.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies related to geospatial data management and privacy.

 

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certification in GIS (e.g., Esri Technical Certification) is advantageous.
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in GIS-focused role
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Self-starting, driven, highly motivated individual
  • Demonstrated technical competence and project experience in mapping and analysis applicable to siting of renewable energy projects such as solar, wind and BESS and related environmental data.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining technical practices and standards
  • Manage internal GIS needs, organize data, and work with teams to develop strategy for renewable development and interconnection items.
  • Ability to identify industry trends and apply to company approach.
