Position Overview:
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Program Specialist plays a vital role in architecting and orchestrating our organization’s comprehensive EHS initiatives. This position combines strategic thinking with practical implementation expertise to develop, deploy, and optimize programs that protect our workforce and environment. Working at the intersection of corporate strategy and operational execution, the Program Specialist ensures consistency and excellence in EHS practices across our North American corporate and operations.
This role requires a seasoned professional who can transform strategic vision into actionable programs while maintaining flexibility for site-specific adaptation. The position demands someone who can effectively collaborate with MN8 business line EHS Managers, site teams, and corporate stakeholders to ensure program success through all phases of development and implementation.
As the EHS Program Director, you will:
- Lead the design and development of corporate EHS initiatives.
- Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and organizational objectives.
- Author comprehensive program documentation, implementation guides, and training materials.
- Communicate program changes and updates.
- Establish program metrics to evaluate effectiveness.
- Develop detailed deployment plans considering resource requirements, timing constraints, and site-specific challenges.
- Coordinate with regional teams for smooth program rollout.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance during implementation.
- Maintain program integrity across diverse operations.
- Establish documentation management requirements and structure.
- Communicate program benefits through office hour reviews.
- Manage program change requests and stakeholder engagement.
- Balance new initiatives with iteration on existing programs.
- Clearly articulate the “why behind the what.”
- Develop and track program metrics to assess effectiveness.
- Conduct program audits and identify improvement opportunities.
- Establish feedback mechanisms for continuous improvement.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of EHS regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Anticipate emerging trends and requirements.
- Provide technical guidance to implementation teams.
- Ensure programs meet both regulatory and organizational needs.
- Engage with corporate leadership, regional teams, and operational management.
- Build consensus, manage expectations, and maintain program support.
- Manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams and ensure efficient resource use.
- Exhibit strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management.
- Collaborate with training specialists to create effective learning materials.
- Ensure consistent program delivery across the organization.
- Adapt training to various learning styles and operational environments.
- Influence the implementation of EHS principles across operations.
- Drive improvements in safety culture and environmental practices.
Our ideal candidate:
- 8+ years of EHS experience, with demonstrated success in program development and implementation within the ISO45001 and ISO14001 architecture.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety, Engineering, or related field is required, while relevant professional certifications (CSP/CIH) are highly valued.
- Strong project management, interpersonal, written and spoken communication skills and proven ability to drive change across complex organizations.
Additional Requirements:
- Travel 30–40% domestically and internationally to support program implementation and conduct reviews.
- Must have flexibility in scheduling and a valid driver’s license.
