Solar Energy Yield Engineer

Day to Day Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct energy estimates for solar and energy storage projects using industry leading software and company proprietary software o Shading analysis including site topography o Snow and soiling loss calculations o Performance ratio (PR) calculations.
  • Conduct uncertainly calculations and Pxx calculations.
  • Research the latest tools, programs and papers for a continuous improvement of the company’s energy modelling capabilities.
  • Review equipment test reports for application of results on energy estimates.
  • Leverage operating data to formulate updated energy modeling assumptions.
  • Coordinate and manage the 3rd party resources (Owner’s Engineers) in the preparation of energy estimates; perform QAQC of results and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Conduct weekly performance analysis of operational projects using technical understanding of PV and BESS operations to identify underperformance and undetected downtime.
  • Work with team members to build automated analysis based on performance analysis findings.
  • Review and occasionally conduct performance testing (PR test or Capacity test) for newly built plants.
  • Prepare documentation to present energy modeling results and assumption to third party financing parties (investors, independent engineers).
  • Lead the negotiation with third party financing parties and technical advisors of energy modeling parameters and results.
  • Discuss inputs and results with peers.
  • Work with meteorological databases and ground measured meteo data, and the providers of such data.
  • Create typical meteorological years (TMY) files.
  • Other tasks as directed.


Key Skills and Experience:

  • +2 yrs Experience in energy modeling for Solar PV /CSP projects.
  • Experience with performance analysis of solar projects using commercial monitoring and analysis tools, is desirable.
  • Familiarity with programming languages (Python, R, C / C++, VBA) highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis and tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Data Science, or Computer Science.
  • Exceptional analytical skills.

  • Read, analyze and interpret designs and technical procedures.
  • Experience using data to solve complex, ambiguous, high-impact, cross-functional problems.
  • Strong analytical and technical as well as problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform under high pressure and dynamic work environment managing multiple project deliverables.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as task prioritization.
  • Be able to conduct business and perform technical writing in English.
  • Familiarity with energy-related data types (e.g. smart meter data, weather data, energy consumption data) and relevant model types (e.g. regression, clustering, time-series forecasting, deep learning) is highly desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a focus on delivering tangible business value through machine learning solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholder.
