Data Acquisition Product Manager/Product Designer

Position Overview: 

The hybrid Product Manager / Product Designer will provide the key liaison between end-users, who define their use-cases, and the development team, who will implement the code and render visualizations. A successful Product Manager must bring a vision of an end-product. This role requires a unique blend of skills in product design, structured data management, project management, creativity, and advanced analytics of solar energy systems. The candidate will manage both internal and external parties. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building solar data acquisition platforms and a deep understanding of the basic requirements and challenges involved. 

 

As the Product Manager, you will: 

  • Lead the design of the data acquisition software, ensuring it meets the needs of end-users and allows for future enhancements. Must have the ability to design the fundamentals of a solar DAS platform that satisfies the basic needs of control room operators, performance engineers, and asset managers. You will design the platform in collaboration with all users and you should be able to take it from blank slate to proof-of-concept fairly independently.  
  • Must come with a vision of a mature solar SCADA and event-based DAS platform.  
  • Work closely with end-users to understand their use-cases and translate these into actionable requirements for the development team. 
  • Directly manage third party developers to develop a product roadmap and execute the key milestones. 
  • Sketch, design, and iterate data visualizations and manage a third party to beta, QAQC, and put into production. 
  • Manage the development process, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within scope. You will have the decision making authority to move basic design and visualization decisions forward efficiently.  
  • Coding experience is a plus but is not necessary.  You must however design with scale and flexibility in mind for future additions and functionality. 
  • Apply knowledge of solar design, expected energy calculations, and performance analytics to inform product decisions.  
  • Make foundational design decisions that will impact the ability for future functionality and enhancements. This includes the ability to articulate and design core functionalities including time-series data curations, rollups, event definition, creation, and allocation, and expected energy/power. 
  • Perform QAQC to deliver a high quality product that meets performance and reliability standards 
  • Position will require travel between Spain and USA. Strong preference given to Madrid-based candidates. 

 

Our ideal candidate will have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Renewable Energy, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus. 
  • Demonstrated success with solar data acquisition platforms product management and design. 
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience leading cross-functional teams. 
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability and willingness to use decision making authority to move project components forward in an environment with competing and often conflicting requests. 
  • Proficiency in Python, JAVA, SQL, and experience with software development in a Python environment is a bonus. 
  • Strong understanding of solar PV systems, including design principles, energy calculations, and performance analytics. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to diverse audiences. 
  • Passion for understanding user needs and translating them into innovative product solutions. 
  • Unafraid of and comfortable with uncertainty. 
  • Strong “managing up” skills to report on progress and identify solutions to blockers. 
  • Must be willing and able to travel as needed.
