Performance Engineer – Solar

SUMMARY:

Day to Day Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct weekly performance analysis of operational projects using technical understanding of PV and BESS operations to identify underperformance and undetected downtime
  • Lead on-boarding of Performance Monitoring software systems, including standardizing metrics and configuring automated alerts and alarms
  • Perform detailed technical analysis of results to identify probable causes of performance issues
  • Collaborate with Field Services, Operations and Engineering teams to identify system, site or portfolio underperformance and recommend improvements
  • Conduct energy estimates/technical modeling for solar and energy storage using industry leading software and company proprietary software
  • Research the latest tools, programs and papers for the continuous improvement of the company’s energy modelling capabilities including new technologies driving decarbonization such as EV Stations or Green Hydrogen
  • Review equipment test reports for application of results on energy estimates
  • Leverage operating data to formulate updated energy modeling assumptions
  • Coordinate and manage the 3rd party resources (Owner’s Engineers) in the preparation of energy estimates; perform QA/QC of results and ensure deadlines are met
  • Work with team members to build automated analysis based on performance analysis findings
  • Lead the negotiation with third party financing parties and technical advisors of energy modeling parameters and results
  • Work with meteorological databases and ground measured meteo data, and the providers of such data
  • Perform or review capacity and performance ratio tests for projects in operation
  • Specify plant acceptance tests, validate the results of these tests
  • Specify the annual scheduled plant tests, validate the results of these tests
  • Review production estimates and meteorological data sources for accuracy by comparing to operational data
  • Develop KPIs to ensure the operating portfolio is performing optimally
  • Develop technical aspects of monthly, quarterly and annual reports
  • Configure and validates performance alerts in Monitoring Portals

 

 

Skills/Attributes:

  • 3+ yrs experience in energy modeling and performance analysis of solar projects with commercial monitoring and analysis tools
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics or Mathematics
  • Exceptional analytical skills
  • Experienced in managing operational BESS and Solar PV Systems
  • Able to read, analyze and interpret technical drawings, designs and procedures
  • Experience with PVSYST, SAM, PV SOL, Plant Predict, HelioScope, HOMER Grid or other PV modeling software
  • Experience with Python, VBA, Matlab and R are highly desirable
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite and Smartsheet
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel VBA and Excel formulas
  • Strong analytical and technical as well as problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to perform under high pressure and dynamic work environment managing multiple project deliverables
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as task prioritization
  • Be able to conduct business and perform technical writing in English
