Performance Engineer, Analyst – Solar

SUMARY:

Day to Day Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Conduct weekly performance analysis of operational projects using data analysis tools and custom software scripts to identify underperformance and undetected downtime
- Perform detailed technical analysis of results to identify probable causes of performance issues and drive actionable events
- Support the IT teams with development of digital infrastructure and backend decision making engines
- Research and support implementation of AI models and development of digital twins to track operational performance of PV plants
- Develop custom analysis tools / work with third party developers to develop custom analysis software, to pinpoint performance issues and prescribe corrective actions
- Work with meteorological databases and ground measured meteo data, and the providers of such data, to validate, filter and compare, solar resources for determining project valuation. Review production estimates and meteorological data sources for accuracy by comparing to operational data
- Work with various teams to diagnose complex problems and develop compelling, data-driven recommendations
- Produce and troubleshoot ad hoc analysis/reports
- Present data insights on a regular basis and incorporate any feedback into reports and/or processes (e.g. present data analysis frequently to Accounting, Performance and Asset Management teams)
- Assist in testing and debugging Operational Data Storage upgrades and patches. Provide data lineage reports and compliance with company data governance requirements
- Work with Accounting and Asset Management teams to validate, enhance or revise integrations developed for automation of Reporting
- Develop KPIs to ensure the operating portfolio is performing optimally
- Support key weekly and monthly metrics and insights reporting and distribution:
- Running essential report/dashboard data source refreshes
- running python code to create predefined tables and charts and
- refreshing Excel and/ or PowerBI to update predefined data flows / analysis)
- Extract /structure data from databases for inclusion in monthly reports
- Check data integrity and data quality for potential issues
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify business challenges and opportunities where machine learning can be used to drive insights and decision making
- Design and implement machine learning algorithms to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness
- Analyze large datasets and develop predictive models to optimize renewable energy production and consumption
- Continuously monitor and improve model performance through experimentation and optimization techniques
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in machine learning and apply them to real-world challenges in the renewable energy industry.
Key Skills/Attributes:
- Experience in energy modeling and performance analysis of solar projects with commercial monitoring and analysis tools, is desirable
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics , Mathematics, Data Science, or Computer Science
- Coursework in computer science, statistics, math, economics, engineering or a related technical or quantitative field
- Exceptional analytical skills
Additional Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of 1+ years of experience with business intelligence tools, such as Power BI
- Minimum of 1+ years of experience and knowledge in SQL desirable
- Minimum of 1+ years of experience in maintaining databases, producing statistics, and /or technical support
- Experience using data to solve complex, ambiguous, high-impact, cross-functional problems
- Strong analytical and technical as well as problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to perform under high pressure and dynamic work environment managing multiple project deliverables
- Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as task prioritization
- Be able to conduct business and perform technical writing in English
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, or related field
- Strong programming skills in Python, R, or other relevant languages
- Experience working with large datasets and distributed computing frameworks (e.g. Hadoop, Spark)
- Familiarity with energy-related data types (e.g. smart meter data, weather data, energy consumption data) and relevant model types (e.g. regression, clustering, time-series forecasting, deep learning)
- Strong problem-solving skills, with a focus on delivering tangible business value through machine learning solutions
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
