Director, Compliance

ABOUT THE POSITION:
MN8 Energy is seeking a highly motivated individual to lead our Compliance department as Director, Compliance. The successful candidate will report to the General Counsel and be responsible for developing and implementing an effective compliance program that ensures the company complies with all relevant laws and regulations.
As the Director, Compliance, you will:
- Develop and implement ethics and compliance policies and procedures that ensure the company complies with all relevant laws and regulations
- Participate as a member of the company’s Policy Review Committee
- Identify potential areas of compliance risk and develop strategies to mitigate those risks
- Stay current with regulatory changes and industry trends that may impact the company’s compliance obligations
- Monitor and audit company operations to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards
- Work with Internal Audit, Legal, Finance, Human Resources, IT, and Regulatory teams and prepare materials for presentation to senior management / Board of Directors as requested
- Develop and deliver training programs to ensure all employees are aware of and adhering to their compliance obligations
- Manage relationships with regulators and external auditors to ensure compliance obligations are met
- Work closely with other departments to ensure compliance is incorporated into all business processes
- Investigate and report any potential compliance breaches or violations to senior management and relevant regulatory bodies
- Partner with others across the organization to manage third-party/vendor performance, spend, and risk in a holistic manner
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, law, or a related field. M.S., M.B.A., or J.D. a plus but not required.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a compliance role with a proven track record of success.
- Experience in the energy industry, whether with a utility, IPP, renewable energy company, or similar (FERC and SEC compliance experience a plus).
- Experience performing risk assessments, identifying risks, and designing risk mitigation strategies.
- Strong understanding of relevant laws and regulations, including but not limited to, energy regulations, data protection, anti-bribery, and anti-money laundering.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify potential areas of risk and develop effective strategies to mitigate those risks.
- Experience in building out and managing a team of compliance professionals.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of integrity and accountability.
- Desire to work in a start-up culture, including comfort working with developing processes.
- Permanent authorization to work for any employer in the U.S. without sponsorship.
In New York City, the base salary for this position at the time of this posting ranges from $170,000 to $220,000. Within that range, individual compensation varies based on job-related factors including but not limited to experience and training, licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs.
